Start Simple

It can be tempting to buy every plant you see in the plant store, but if you’ve never owned plants before, it’s best to start out simple. Opt for easy to care for plants that do great in all different environments and that can easily be placed in different areas of the room.

Some of our favorites are:

  • Snake Plants

  • Pothos

  • ZZ Plants

  • Ferns

Match Your Plants to Your Design Style

To help create a more cohesive feel and make incorporating plants into your space, choose plants that match your style.

If your home has a mid-century modern feel, consider oversized plants like a fiddle leaf fig, monstera, or rubber tree. Plant them in raised planters to complete the look.

If your home has a farmhouse feel, opt for plants that are more functional like herbs, aloe, eucalyptus, vining plants, and succulents and pot them in metal planters or repurposed pots.

If your home has a more eclectic feel, choose smaller plants in a variety of pots. Having a mix of textures, colors, and sizes will help match them to your style. We recommend flowering houseplants, vining plants, cacti, and succulents!

Incorporate High-Humidity Plants into Your Bathroom

Bathrooms can be tricky for decorating with plants since they normally have low light. Instead, opt for plants that require high humidity to ensure they thrive, no matter how dark your bathroom is.

If you’re not sure what plants to add to your bathroom, start with eucalyptus, ferns, orchids, peace Lillies, and even air plants.

Make a Statement with Large Plants

Once you’ve gotten your green thumb wet with some smaller plants, it’s time to upgrade to some oversized plants! Not only are they eye-catching, but they’re also a great way to style a larger, empty space. Boston ferns, monsteras, fiddle leaf figs, and bird of paradise plants are all great options.

Shop at Your Local Greenhouse or Plant Shop

Shopping locally is a great way to find beautiful plants at great prices, while supporting your local businesses. Sopping local will also give you the opportunity to have more specialized recommendations and knowledge, especially if you’re new to houseplants.

Not sure what type of plants you want or where to put them? When in doubt, take photos of your space and show them to your local garden center!
