Spring Clean Your Yard
Before you start tackling your never-ending list of landscaping projects you want to complete this year, it’s essential to give your yard a clean-up. This will make tackling all of those projects just easier and will prepare your yard for the upcoming growing season so it can look its best!
Here are some tasks to get you started:
Remove any litter in your grass or gardening beds
Remove any dead grass, leaves, and pinecones from your lawn
Remove any dead leaves and stalks on your perennials
Remove any weeds (and spray if you have to!)
Prune Your Shrubs
Now that winter is over (and hopefully won’t be seeing any more snow!), it’s time to remove any of the shrub shelters you set up last fall/winter. Once you’ve done this, you’ll want to see what their pruning needs are. More often than not, all you’ll need to do is trim them back and reshape them so they look their best.
If you notice any dead limbs or areas that died over the winter, you can remove these.
Re-Edge Garden Beds
Edging your garden beds and where your lawn meets pavement will instantly transform your landscaping. It might take a little bit of time, but it’s so rewarding once it’s completed.
Fertilize, Fertilize, Fertilize
After the long winter, your grass is going to need a little support so it can look it’s best all season long! Fertilizer will give your lawn the nutrients it needs so it can grow back thick and green, stand up against hot temperatures once summer rolls around, and help kill any weeds that might have popped up over the winter.
Late-spring is also the ideal time to lay down crabgrass preventer although some fertilizers have this incorporated in it.
Have a Watering Routine
While fertilizer can help your grass looking its best even during the months it barely rains, your lawn still needs to be watered! Whether you’re utilizing lawn irrigation system or using a traditional sprinkler, make sure you get on a schedule and don’t overwater.
